What is
Sound Healing

A little background…

Sound is believed to be one of the first senses to develop in utero and the last to fade as we leave the physical world.

The basic principle of sound as a healing modality is resonance, rooted in ancient cultures and philosophies – that when the body’s natural frequencies are altered, an imbalance or illness may present.

Almost all cultures have used sound and music in meditation, healing, and rituals, recognising its therapeutic power for mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Ancient sound therapy was rooted in the belief that we are continuously and energetically connected with our environment. Modern discoveries in quantum physics support this idea, suggesting that everything vibrates at its own unique frequency, including our cells.

The human ear can only detect certain frequencies, yet we are constantly surrounded by them, many of which are inaudible. These frequencies affect not only our hearing but also our physical bodies, traveling through skin, bones, and fluids. Modern medicine utilises inaudible frequencies in treatments like Ultrasound, HIFU, and Lithotripsy.

The rain on a tin roof, rustling of trees, screeching cars, our favourite song… Sound influences our emotions, heart rate, breathing, and brainwaves. It engages the autonomic nervous system, triggering either a calming or stimulating response through neuroendocrine pathways. Specific sound frequencies can induce meditative alpha or theta brainwaves, promoting deep relaxation and reducing stress.

Since the human body is mostly water, it resonates with sound down to the cellular level, amplifying its therapeutic effects.

“If we accept that sound is vibration and we know that vibration touches every part of our physical being, then we understand that sound is “heard” not only through our ears, but every cell in our body.”
- Mitchell L Gaynor

Is the word ‘meditation’ daunting?
Can’t sit still? Switch off?
Mind wanders?

In today’s world, stress is ever-present, disrupting the harmony of our emotional and physical health and often leading to illness. Meditation is a proven method to counter stress by shifting brainwave states and rebalancing the nervous system.

Sound healing can easily guide the listener into a restorative meditative state, reducing stress and inspiring positive change.

A Sound Bath employs an array of instruments to ‘bathe’ you in frequencies, guiding you on a deeply immersive, full body listening experience. This intentionally uses sound to invite gentle, yet powerful vibrational therapeutic and restorative processes that nurture the mind and body.
